PROFILE OF SCHEDULED CASTES IN TAMIL NADU

As per 2011 Census, the population of Scheduled Castes in Tamil Nadu is 144 lakh constituting 20.01% of the total population of 721 lakh. Nearly 66% of the Scheduled Castes live in rural areas. The districts of Thiruvarur (34.08%), The Nilgiris (32.08%), Nagapattinam (31.54%), Perambalur (31.01%), Villupuram (29.37%) and Cuddalore (29.32%) have the largest proportion of Scheduled Castes Population. The sex ratio among the Scheduled Castes is 999/1000 which is much higher than the general sex ratio of 996/1000 of the State

Abstract of Schemes Adi Dravidar Welfare Department is implementation of State & Central welfare schemes to uplift the Socio Economic conditions of SC/ST and to provide civic amenities in the SC/ST habitation and to achieve the goal of ensuring Social Justice and Social Equality towards achievement of 2047.
